Medical cases in Vietnam highlight risks of painless squamous cell carcinoma

Medical professionals in Vietnam have reported two distinct cases of cancer identified through painless growths.

A 21-year-old male in Hung Yen was diagnosed with in situ squamous cell carcinoma of the penis at Medlatec Cau Giay Polyclinic. The patient had noticed a slow-growing, painless mass for three months following unsafe sexual encounters. Testing also revealed a Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Following surgical intervention, the lesion was successfully controlled, and subsequent pathology showed no remaining malignant cells.

Separately, a 77-year-old male at Bach Mai Hospital was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) after presenting with a painless, brown tumor on his right temple. The patient had attempted home remedies before seeking professional help. Doctors performed a wide excision and reconstructed the area using a local rotation flap.

Medical experts warn that squamous cell carcinoma can appear as abnormal skin patches, thickened areas, or growing masses that do not necessarily cause pain, ulceration, or discharge. Early detection is emphasized as critical for successful treatment and preserving function.
