Medical congress in Gran Canaria focuses on migrant healthcare
The XLVI Congress of the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC) is being held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from November 5 to 7. A central theme of the event is the healthcare response for migrants arriving on Spanish coasts via maritime routes.
To address these challenges, the program includes a practical beachside simulation designed to train professionals in initial triage and the organization of first-response medical care. The session aims to improve coordination and clinical response in territories like the Canary Islands, where maritime arrivals present specific social and sanitary needs.
In addition to migrant care, the congress will address primary care challenges such as chronic pain management, polypharmacy, and treatment safety. The scientific program also covers diagnostic innovation, digital health, and the application of artificial intelligence in primary care settings.
