Medical diagnostic imaging trends in dentistry and whole-body MRI

Advancements and considerations in medical diagnostic imaging are highlighted through different specialized applications. In dentistry, the choice between 2D and 3D imaging requires a balance between clinical benefit and radiation exposure. While 3D imaging provides detailed views essential for implantology, tooth extractions, and assessing developmental defects, 2D imaging remains the primary tool for many routine clinical situations due to lower radiation doses.

In broader diagnostic medicine, Whole Body MRI is being utilized to provide a comprehensive assessment of multiple organs and anatomical structures in a single session without ionizing radiation. This method, available at facilities like TK MEDICA using Siemens 1.5 T equipment, allows for a wide-ranging review from the head to the lower limbs. While it serves as a screening tool to identify focal changes that may require further investigation, it is not a replacement for targeted organ-specific examinations or standard preventive programs.
