Medical emergencies highlight importance of CPR and medication safety

In London, Imogen Tinkler shared her experience of performing CPR on her eight-week-old daughter, Beatrix, during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. Tinkler, a former lifeguard, acted instinctively when her daughter became unresponsive. Although Beatrix was transported to King’s College Hospital and placed on life support for eight days, she ultimately passed away due to complications. Tinkler noted that knowing she had performed resuscitation provided her with a sense of certainty that she had done everything possible.

In Botoșani, Romania, a six-year-old boy fell into a coma after his ten-year-old sister applied a fentanyl patch to a wound on his body. The child was found unconscious with a high fever and discolored skin. Medical staff at the Mavromati County Hospital identified the fentanyl intoxication and administered naloxone, which successfully reversed the effects of the opioid. The boy regained consciousness and was transferred to the pediatric department for further observation.
