Medical error and flash flood incidents reported in China

In Hubei province, a man surnamed Ngô from Wuhan reported a severe medical error after undergoing a total gastrectomy for a suspected cancer that was later proven non-existent. Despite initial biopsy results showing no cancer cells, doctors at a new hospital proceeded with the surgery, believing cancer was still a possibility. During the procedure, the surgical plan was expanded from a partial to a total removal of the stomach and 15 lymph nodes. Post-operative pathology confirmed there were no cancer cells, leaving the patient with permanent physical disabilities.

Separately, in Hunan province, a 34-year-old man named Tran Yen Binh was swept away by a sudden flash flood while attempting to warn neighbors of rising waters in Yanling County. Following heavy rains in late August, a rapid surge of water carrying debris struck the area. While a relative managed to escape the current, Tran was unable to retreat in time and was carried away by the floodwaters. Local authorities and rescue teams have initiated search operations in the downstream areas.
