Medical experts address fertility myths and late motherhood
Medical experts are addressing common misconceptions regarding fertility and late motherhood, particularly concerning the age of 35. While fertility declines gradually with age due to changes in the quantity and quality of egg cells, doctors emphasize that there is no sudden “cutoff point” where pregnancy becomes impossible.
Key medical insights include:
• Regular menstrual cycles do not guarantee high fertility, as ovarian reserve and other factors must be assessed through hormonal tests and ultrasounds.
• For women over 35, medical professionals recommend starting diagnostic testing after six months of regular attempts to conceive. For those over 40, consultation is advised immediately upon deciding to pursue parenthood.
• Assisted reproductive technologies, such as IVF, are not the only solution. Depending on the diagnosis, treatments may include hormonal therapy, ovulation induction, or addressing anatomical obstacles.
While modern medicine can support reproductive efforts, it cannot stop the biological aging process of egg cells. Experts from the Polish Society of Reproductive Medicine and Embryology and the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians suggest that early awareness of reproductive potential allows for more informed family planning.
