Medical experts discuss gaps in cancer prevention and diagnostics
Medical experts are highlighting critical gaps in cancer prevention and diagnostic processes. During the 2nd European Summit on Cancer Prevention and Control, Dr. Artur Białoszewski addressed the disconnect between identifying health risks—such as obesity, high blood pressure, or glycemic disorders—and implementing effective interventions. He proposed the role of a 'preventer' (profilaktyk), a regulated medical profession capable of coordinating patient care, navigating screening programs, and ensuring follow-up actions are completed.
In the field of urological oncology, Dr. Przemysław Mitura emphasized the importance of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing and regular screenings. He noted that early-stage prostate cancer often presents no symptoms, and symptoms like urinary changes can be mistaken for benign enlargement. Experts recommend that men around age 50 undergo PSA testing and physical examinations, with the frequency of subsequent monitoring determined by specific PSA levels and clinical findings.
