Medical experts discuss weight loss aesthetics and gynecomastia
Medical experts are highlighting the aesthetic and physiological considerations following significant weight loss and hormonal changes.
Plastic and reconstructive surgeon İlker Altundağ warns that rapid weight loss may not allow skin to recover at the same rate, potentially leading to sagging in the abdomen, arms, legs, and breasts. He emphasizes that surgical planning must be personalized, taking into account skin quality, fat distribution, and how long the patient's weight has been stable, noting that not all skin laxity requires surgery.
Separately, Dr. Güllü Korkmaz addresses male breast enlargement, noting it is not always gynecomastia. While true gynecomastia involves glandular tissue growth due to estrogen and testosterone imbalances, pseudo-gynecomastia is caused by fat accumulation. Korkmaz advises that rapid or unilateral growth in adults requires medical evaluation to rule out underlying issues such as thyroid, liver, or kidney diseases.
