Medical experts highlight risks of myelodysplastic syndrome and dehydration
Medical specialists are emphasizing the importance of recognizing the warning signs of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a bone marrow cancer that disrupts the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Symptoms such as persistent fatigue, paleness, recurrent infections, and easy bruising are often mistaken for general anemia or other conditions. Approximately 85% of MDS cases present with anemia as the primary sign, yet the non-specific nature of these symptoms can lead to diagnostic delays. Research indicates that 21% of suspected cases initially receive an incorrect diagnosis, and about one in three patients may progress to acute myeloid leukemia.
Separately, health experts note that common ailments like headaches, fatigue, and dizziness can often be attributed to dehydration. While symptoms such as dry mouth and dark urine are key indicators, dehydration can also trigger or exacerbate existing headache disorders. Maintaining adequate fluid intake is recommended as a primary measure for managing these symptoms.
