Medical experts provide guidance on healthy coffee consumption

Medical experts have provided guidance on the healthy consumption of coffee, addressing concerns regarding daily limits and digestive impact. Cardiologist Aurelio Rojas advises that individuals should not exceed five cups of coffee per day, noting that additional consumption offers no further benefits and may lead to adverse effects. He recommends choosing natural roast coffee over 'torrefacto' or blends and suggests consuming coffee before 3:00 PM to avoid disrupting sleep patterns.

Regarding digestive health, Kim Barrett, a professor of physiology and membrane biology at the University of California, Davis, addressed concerns about drinking coffee on an empty stomach. Barrett notes that the stomach is equipped with protective mechanisms, such as a thick mucus layer, that allow it to withstand irritants like coffee. This differs from substances like alcohol, tobacco, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which can actively damage the stomach's natural defenses.
