Medical experts share health tips for aging and fall prevention

Medical professionals in Japan are sharing advice on preventative health and physical maintenance for aging populations.

Dr. Anshiko Suganuma, an 83-year-old active physician at Suganuma Mita Clinic, demonstrates the ‘Princess Walk’ to help prevent falls. This technique focuses on three points: looking forward, tucking the chin slightly, and pulling the shoulders back to straighten the spine. This posture helps ensure the toes lift sufficiently to avoid tripping on small obstacles. She also recommends ‘rhythm walking,’ which involves alternating between a normal pace and a brisk walk to improve aerobic exercise and circulation.

Additionally, medical experts emphasize the importance of regular health checkups for early detection of silent conditions. Dr. Yoichi Honji notes that checkups are essential even for those who feel healthy, as conditions like cancer and myocardial infarction often present no symptoms until they have progressed significantly. For instance, many patients experience chest pain for the first time only during a sudden cardiac event.
