Medical experts suggest strategies to mitigate alcohol health risks

Medical professionals are offering guidance on how to mitigate the health risks of alcohol consumption for those who choose not to quit drinking. While previous theories suggested a ‘J-curve’ where moderate drinking might offer health benefits, modern medical consensus indicates that even small amounts of alcohol can increase risks for certain conditions, such as cancer.

To manage these risks, specialists suggest adopting new habits. Liver specialist Shinichi Asabe promotes a ‘non-alcoholic first’ approach to help control total alcohol intake. Similarly, physician Hiroshi Natori emphasizes that while drinking should be viewed as a trade-off where one pays a health cost for enjoyment, individuals can minimize that cost by being mindful of their consumption methods.
