Medical experts urge early hearing loss treatment despite aesthetic concerns
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Somdaş, an ENT specialist at Acıbadem Kayseri Hospital, advises patients not to delay hearing loss treatment due to aesthetic concerns regarding the visibility of hearing aids.
Somdaş emphasizes that treatment approaches must be individualized based on the type and degree of hearing loss, ear anatomy, and previous surgeries. He distinguishes between conduction issues in the outer and middle ear and sensorineural hearing loss originating in the inner ear.
For patients who have undergone surgeries involving the removal of ear ossicles, bone-anchored hearing systems are an option. While older technologies required screws that pierced the skin, creating aesthetic and practical issues, modern advancements allow for magnetic attachments that preserve skin integrity. These new systems do not leave visible connections when the external component is removed, helping to mitigate concerns about appearance.
