Medical experts urge vaccination for patients with multiple chronic diseases
Medical experts emphasize that patients with multimorbidity—the coexistence of at least two chronic diseases—are at a higher risk of severe infections. Such infections can disrupt diabetes control, exacerbate asthma or COPD, and lead to hospitalization.
Professor Leszek Czupryniak of the Warsaw Medical University notes that while some patients fear they are too ill to be vaccinated due to multiple medications and conditions, the opposite is true. Patients with more coexisting diseases often have weaker immunity and therefore have a greater need for vaccination.
Data from the OECD PaRIS study indicates that 82% of people aged 45 and older using primary care have at least one chronic disease, while 54% have at least two. In Poland, the PolSenior2 study shows that multimorbidity affects approximately 70% of people aged 60–64 and 90% of those aged 90 and older.
