Medical experts warn against long-term use of papaya flower honey remedy

Medical experts at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases are issuing warnings regarding the long-term consumption of male papaya flowers soaked in honey, a common folk remedy used to soothe throats and support health.

A male patient with a history of hepatitis B was recently hospitalized with acute liver failure, severe cholestasis, and significantly elevated liver enzymes after consuming the mixture daily for an extended period. While doctors note that the patient's underlying hepatitis B is a factor, the case serves as a warning against the unregulated, long-term use of folk remedies.

Physicians advise that natural substances are not inherently harmless and should not be treated as miracle cures or replacements for medical treatment. Individuals, especially those with underlying chronic conditions, are urged to consult medical professionals regarding appropriate dosages and to avoid continuous use over months or years without supervision.
