Medical experts warn against misuse of weight loss injections
Medical experts are warning against the misuse of weight loss injections, emphasizing that these are prescription medications intended for clinical obesity rather than cosmetic weight loss or minor figure correction.
Dr. Mustafa Hatipoğlu from Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Hospital notes that these drugs work by reducing appetite and increasing satiety rather than directly burning fat. He advises that treatment should only be considered for individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher if accompanied by related conditions such as type 2 diabetes or hypertension. He warns that without lifestyle changes, weight regain is likely after stopping treatment.
Health professionals also highlight significant risks associated with unsupervised use, including side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and more serious conditions such as pancreatitis or gallbladder disease. Furthermore, there are warnings regarding illegal distribution channels where counterfeit or contaminated products may be circulating.
