Medical experts warn against normalizing persistent fatigue
Medical professionals warn that persistent fatigue should not be dismissed as mere tiredness, as it can be a primary indicator of underlying health issues. While exhaustion is common during periods of stress or lack of sleep, lasting symptoms that persist after rest may signal conditions such as anemia, nutritional deficiencies, hypothyroidism, diabetes, sleep apnea, infections, or autoimmune diseases.
Mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression, can also manifest physically through lack of energy, muscle tension, sleep disturbances, and headaches. Medical attention is particularly urgent if fatigue is accompanied by shortness of breath, palpitations, persistent fever, fainting, unexplained weight loss, or intense weakness. General practitioners are recommended as the first point of contact to investigate these symptoms through patient history and clinical exams.
