Medical experts warn of diagnostic delays in atrial fibrillation and psoriatic arthritis

Medical specialists are highlighting the critical need for early detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) to prevent long-term health complications.

Regarding atrial fibrillation, data from the American Heart Association indicates that 62% of diagnosed patients were unaware of their condition prior to medical confirmation. Symptoms such as palpitations, unusual fatigue, and shortness of breath are often misattributed to aging or stress. Risk factors include hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and family history. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent blood stagnation and other complications.

In the case of psoriatic arthritis, which affects over 230,000 people in Spain, specialists warn that diagnosis can be delayed by four to five years. This inflammatory disease affects joints, the spine, and tendons. Experts from the Spanish Society of Rheumatology emphasize that early intervention is necessary to reduce the risk of structural joint damage and preserve patient quality of life.
