Medical experts warn of epilepsy and ADHD symptoms in children

Medical experts in Turkey are providing guidance to parents regarding neurodevelopmental and neurological symptoms in children, specifically distinguishing between attention issues and more serious conditions.

Prof. Dr. Sedat Işıkay, a pediatric neurology specialist at Medical Point Gaziantep Hospital, warned that brief episodes of staring or loss of awareness in children may not be simple inattention but could indicate epileptic seizures. He noted that these seizures often lack obvious physical convulsions and may only last a few seconds, appearing as if the child is simply daydreaming or unresponsive to their surroundings.

Separately, clinical psychologist Aşkın Yiğit discussed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), describing it as a neurodevelopmental disorder involving inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Yiğit emphasized that while environmental factors like screen time can exacerbate symptoms, ADHD is often influenced by genetics. He advised parents to evaluate whether a child's behavior is appropriate for their developmental age and whether it significantly impairs their daily functioning and social life.
