Medical experts warn of silent risks in heart valve disease and blood clots

Medical specialists are highlighting the dangers of cardiovascular conditions that often progress without obvious symptoms. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Beşoğul notes that heart valve diseases, involving the aortic, mitral, tricuspid, or pulmonary valves, can disrupt heart function over many years. These conditions may be detected during routine checkups or through symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, and fatigue. Causes include congenital differences, aging, infections like infective endocarditis, and rheumatic heart disease.

Separately, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Adnan Celkan warns against ignoring sudden swelling, pain, or redness in the legs, which may indicate deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Risk factors for DVT include prolonged immobility, major surgery, pregnancy, and certain cancers. Celkan emphasizes that if leg swelling is accompanied by sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or fainting, immediate emergency medical attention is required to prevent life-threatening complications.
