Medical experts warn of silent risks in respiratory and vascular health

Medical experts are issuing warnings regarding the importance of early detection for respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

Regarding respiratory health, Dr. Yıldırım warns that persistent coughing, phlegm, wheezing, and shortness of breath should not be dismissed as merely consequences of aging, weight gain, or smoking history. Early evaluation is critical for diagnosing lung diseases. Experts also emphasize the dangers of passive smoking, particularly for children, and recommend maintaining clean air and regular physical activity to protect lung health.

In the field of cardiovascular health, Op. Dr. Ahmet Özsoy of Liv Hospital Ulus highlights the risks associated with carotid artery stenosis. He notes that narrowing in the arteries that carry blood to the brain can progress silently without symptoms for long periods. This condition increases the risk of transient ischemic attacks or strokes, as plaque buildup can narrow the vessel or break off and block blood flow to the brain. Regular assessments are recommended for individuals at risk.
