Medical experts warn of sports injuries and joint management

Medical professionals are highlighting the risks of improper exercise and the importance of managing joint health. At a scientific conference at Post Hospital, Dr. Tran Duc Thinh noted a high volume of sports-related injuries, averaging 15 to 20 cases daily. Common activities leading to injury include football and pickleball.

Dr. Thinh warned that injuries often stem from improper movement, excessive intensity, or insufficient recovery time rather than just physical impact. He cited cases of complete Achilles tendon ruptures in fit individuals over 40 due to age-related loss of elasticity, as well as recurring shoulder dislocations in younger athletes playing badminton.

Regarding knee osteoarthritis, experts emphasize that physical activity remains beneficial if adjusted correctly. Dr. Gurdeep Avinash Ratra advises patients to monitor symptoms such as persistent pain, morning stiffness, swelling, and clicking sounds. Managing weight and adjusting walking intensity are key to mitigating the pressure on joints caused by cartilage erosion.
