Medical experts warn of stroke and heart failure risks
Medical professionals are highlighting the significant risks associated with atrial fibrillation and strokes. Atrial fibrillation is estimated to cause 20 to 30 percent of all ischemic strokes in Germany and can lead to heart failure in more than one-third of affected patients. Experts note that up to 50 percent of the 1.6 million patients in Germany living with atrial fibrillation may experience no noticeable symptoms, making the condition particularly dangerous as it can lead to blood clots and life-threatening brain infarctions.
Neurologists also warn that strokes are not limited to the elderly. Younger, seemingly healthy individuals may misinterpret symptoms like sudden paralysis, speech disturbances, or vision issues as migraines or circulatory problems. To identify a stroke, experts recommend the FAST rule: checking for facial drooping (Face), arm weakness (Arms), and speech difficulties (Speech), emphasizing that immediate medical attention is required if these signs appear (Time).
