Medical facilities in Venezuela and Mexico perform pacemaker implantations

Medical facilities in Venezuela and Mexico are reporting advancements and regular procedures in pacemaker implantations.

In Valencia, Venezuela, the Ciudad Hospitalaria Dr. Enrique Tejera (CHET) cardiology service is conducting monthly sessions to treat approximately 20 patients with severe cardiovascular events. These surgeries, supported by the Ministry of Popular Power for Health and the Carabobo Governorate, utilize ultrasound-guided punctures and radiological projections to correct electrical heart disorders. The procedures are typically completed within 40 to 60 minutes under local anesthesia to facilitate rapid recovery.

In Mexico, the ISSSTE institute has successfully implanted five wireless pacemakers across hospitals in Monterrey, Mexico City, and Culiacán. These advanced devices, which weigh 1.75 grams, are implanted directly into the heart without the need for traditional leads or electrodes. This technology aims to reduce infection risks and allow for faster patient recovery. The patients treated in these procedures ranged in age from 67 to 89 years old.
