Medical groups oppose executive order changing U.S. vaccine schedule

Medical organizations, including the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), have expressed significant concern regarding a recent executive order aimed at altering the U.S. childhood and adolescent vaccine schedule.

The ACP stated that the order could create barriers to access, increase costs for families through additional copays, and erode school entry requirements. They specifically noted that changes to vaccine administration, such as potentially breaking up the combined Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine, would require families to schedule more frequent appointments.

Both organizations emphasized that the proposed changes deviate from decades of evidence-based scientific review. They warned that such actions could decrease vaccination rates, undermine public trust in vaccines, and increase the risk of outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
