Medical guidance influences copper IUD perception, survey finds

A survey conducted by the QualiBest Institute for DKT South America indicates that medical guidance significantly influences women's perceptions of contraceptive methods. Among 317 women aged 18 to 40 surveyed, 74% of those who initially would not consider a copper IUD stated they would be more inclined to use the method if it were medically recommended.

The study highlights a gap between awareness and intent; while 72% of respondents reported being familiar with the copper/silver IUD, only 21% said they would consider or return to using it. Additionally, 26% of participants indicated they did not fully understand how the device functions.

Dr. Larissa Cassiano, a gynecologist at DKT South America, emphasized that medical consultations are vital for clarifying doubts and providing context to information often gathered from unofficial sources, allowing for more conscious decision-making.
