Medical guidelines link cardiovascular and kidney health
European cardiologists and nephrologists have released new clinical guidelines emphasizing the critical link between cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. Because these two conditions often exacerbate one another, experts recommend integrated treatment paths rather than separate approaches to avoid losing precious time in patient care.
To ensure early diagnosis, the guidelines suggest routine kidney function monitoring for all individuals with cardiovascular disease. This includes annual blood tests to estimate filtration via creatinine levels and urine tests to measure albumin levels. Early detection is vital as chronic kidney disease often remains asymptomatic in its initial stages.
Regarding cholesterol management, experts note that while diet and physical activity are essential for overall cardiovascular health, they may not always be sufficient to control high LDL levels. High LDL cholesterol plays a causal role in the development of arterial plaques, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Natural plant-based supplements are being discussed as potential tools in managing lipid profiles alongside traditional lifestyle interventions.
