Medical initiatives target congenital heart disease in children
Advances in pediatric hemodynamics and therapeutic catheterization are providing minimally invasive alternatives to open-heart surgery for children with congenital heart defects. These procedures, which can be performed from infancy through adolescence, allow specialists to treat conditions such as atrial and ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus, and certain arrhythmias by using blood vessels as access points to the heart.
In Mexico, the association Ayuda a Corazón de Niño is organizing its third medical session in Cancún, Quintana Roo. The initiative aims to provide high-specialty procedures to between 30 and 40 minors. Supported by approximately 60 specialists and various institutions, the 10-day program focuses on patients requiring urgent surgical or cardiological interventions. Previous sessions of this program have successfully treated 55 children.
