Medical investigation coverage for uninsured in Romania and insured in Moldova

In Romania, the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) provides certain medical investigations free of charge for uninsured individuals under specific conditions. These services are not a general right but must be recommended by a family doctor via a special referral. Covered services include preventive analyses, investigations for detecting oncological diseases, testing for hepatitis B and C, and HIV testing for pregnant women.

In Moldova, individuals insured under the mandatory medical assistance system can access high-performance medical investigations, such as CT scans and MRI, without payment. During the first half of 2026, approximately 373,000 such investigations were funded through AOAM funds, representing an increase of over 30,000 compared to the same period the previous year.
