Medical professionals combat misinformation through new communication methods

The proliferation of misinformation and the resulting infodemic have created significant challenges for public trust and health literacy. In Argentina, a 2018 study indicated that 59% of people encountered false information on social media, impacting public opinion and social decision-making.

To combat this, medical professionals are adopting new communication methods. Specialists such as Facundo Pereyra and Daniel López Rosetti are utilizing theatrical shows like ‘Modo Reset’ and ‘Recetas para una buena vida’ to educate the public by blending medicine with performance.

However, experts including Alberto Cormillot and Conrado Estol warn of the risks associated with mass communication lacking scientific foundation. They emphasize the necessity of distinguishing credible professionals from opportunists to prevent the trivialization of medical information and the potential harm caused by disinformation.
