Medical professionals face labor disputes in Senegal and Luxembourg

In Senegal, the Autonomous Union of Physicians, Pharmacists, and Dentists (SAMES) has condemned remarks by the Director General of the Dakar University Center for University Works (COUD). The Director reportedly referred to the institution's doctors as "saisonniers" (seasonal workers), a classification SAMES claims ignores labor laws and trivializes precarious employment conditions. The union noted that several practitioners have worked for over five years without formal contracts and criticized insufficient remuneration and lack of transparency in payments.

Separately, in Luxembourg, the Association of Physicians and Dentists (AMMD) has announced its refusal to sign a new convention with the National Health Fund (CNS), which is set to expire on October 31. While the government may extend current rates via regulation to prevent sudden deregulation, the impasse prevents potential improvements to services and rate revaluations. The dispute reflects broader political tensions regarding the liberalization of the healthcare sector and the management of the social security deficit.
