Medical professionals face shifts in patient demands and care needs

Medical professionals are facing evolving challenges regarding patient demands and specialized care needs. There is a growing trend of patients seeking whole-body MRIs out of pocket to proactively detect diseases like hepatic steatosis or asymptomatic aneurysms, bypassing traditional insurance and primary care loops. This shift is driven by the rise of longevity and concierge medicine, presenting radiologists with the choice to either dismiss the trend or establish clinical frameworks for it.

Simultaneously, there are concerns regarding the preparedness of medical professionals to treat neurodivergent populations. Current medical curricula often lack substantial formal training for working with patients with disabilities. Programs such as the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders (LEND) at Stony Brook University aim to bridge this gap through specialized clinical seminars and direct patient encounters to better serve the disability community.
