Medical professionals in Vietnam treat kidney failure and large brain tumor

Medical professionals in Vietnam have successfully treated two complex cases involving kidney failure and a large brain tumor.

A 62-year-old man developed acute kidney failure due to untreated urinary stones. After ignoring painless symptoms for a year, he was hospitalized with edema and impaired consciousness. Doctors at Tam Anh General Hospital utilized a JJ stent to stabilize his condition and manage infection before performing minimally invasive stone removal using a flexible endoscope and C-arm guidance. His kidney function has since recovered.

Separately, at People's Hospital 115, surgeons successfully removed an 8 cm giant meningioma from a 45-year-old patient. The tumor, located at the base of the skull, had been compressing the frontal lobes and optic nerves, causing progressive vision loss and decreased sense of smell. Using micro-neurosurgery through a small incision near the eyebrow, the medical team removed the mass while preserving critical blood vessels and nerves. The patient's vision improved following the procedure.
