Medical professionals lead student election candidate list

The candidate list for the upcoming student elections has drawn significant attention due to the high number of medical professionals included. More than 20 doctors and medical specialists are featured on the list, including top candidates Ilija Srdanović, a cardiologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, Katarina Stanković, and Aleksandar Cvetković, a surgeon and professor in Kragujevac.

Sociologist Dario Hajrić noted that the prominence of doctors reflects the social relevance of the medical profession and a desire to represent various sectors of society. He suggested the list aims to move away from traditional party-driven politics by featuring individuals with symbolic capital outside of the political sphere.

Separately, reports have emerged regarding digital disinformation targeting Ilija Srdanović. A viral photograph claiming to show Srdanović making a specific political gesture known as the ‘Montenegrin L’ has been identified as digitally altered. Original footage and photographs from the pre-election gathering in Novi Sad confirm that Srdanović was actually holding his hand in a clenched fist, not making the disputed gesture.
