Medical reports highlight severe kidney complications in Peru and Chile

In Peru, specialists at the Hospital Nacional Alberto Sabogal Sologuren (EsSalud) performed a complex four-hour surgery to remove the left kidney of a 55-year-old man. The patient, Heriberto Paima Salinas, suffered from pyonephrosis, a condition where an infection causes pus to accumulate in the organ. During the procedure, doctors evacuated approximately five liters of purulent material. The kidney had been obstructed by stones, leading to massive hydronephrosis. Following a lumbotomy, the patient has shown favorable clinical evolution.

In Chile, a 27-year-old man is in the intensive care unit at the Hospital Provincial de Ovalle after being bitten by a 'rincón' spider. The bite caused severe renal failure and liver involvement, requiring renal replacement therapy. This incident follows the recent death of a 26-year-old in La Serena due to a similar spider bite. Health authorities in the Coquimbo region have issued warnings regarding symptoms such as intense pain, skin discoloration, fever, and dark urine, urging immediate medical attention for suspected bites.
