Medical research advancements and funding for breast cancer in Catalonia

Recent developments in medical research in Catalonia highlight new advancements and funding for breast cancer studies. Marisa Rubio, a resident at the Consorci Sanitari de l’Anoia (CSA), has been awarded the 2026 Residents' Research Prize of l’Anoia. Her project investigates the use of complementary medicine in breast cancer patients and its potential pharmacological interactions with oral antineoplastic treatments.

In a separate initiative, the Mamapop Association is funding two breast cancer research projects at the Institut de Recerca Biomèdica de Lleida (IRBLleida). Through the MamaProjects2026 call, Mamapop has allocated 88,085 euros—raised from 2025 concerts—to support competitive research groups. This funding will cover projects running from 2027 to 2029. Since 2014, Mamapop has contributed a total of 407,970 euros to research at IRBLleida.
