Medical research advances in liver disease treatment and cardiac recovery prediction

Recent medical research has highlighted new advancements in treating liver and heart conditions. In Cuba, a multidisciplinary team from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Sancti Spíritus published a study in the Electronic Medical Journal regarding the effectiveness of a prebiotic called ‘KestoMix’. The research, led by Dr. Mirian Belkis Nápoles Valdés, focused on treating metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease by targeting the intestinal microbiota.

Separately, an international multicenter study involving the Quirónsalud Teknon Heart Institute has introduced a machine-learning tool named ‘PVCuRe’. Published in the journal Heart Rhythm, the study analyzed 256 patients to predict which individuals with impaired cardiac function are most likely to recover following the ablation of ventricular extrasystoles. This tool aims to distinguish whether heart deterioration is caused by irregular beats or underlying cardiac disease.
