Medical Research Council launches £90m recruitment drive

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has launched a £90 million investment to recruit 600 future medical researchers. Through fourteen MRC Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA), the program will support over 200 researchers annually for the next three years at universities across the United Kingdom.

The initiative covers the full spectrum of medical science, from initial discovery to early translation. Researchers will undertake PhDs while gaining experience in academia, healthcare, and industry. The program emphasizes multidisciplinary skills, including data science, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship.

To prepare researchers for diverse careers, the awards facilitate collaboration with businesses, NHS organizations, charities, and public sector partners. The training aims to drive innovation in early diagnosis, advanced therapies, and precision prevention.
