Medical research developments in France and Gabon
The MICORALIS laboratory at Université Côte d'Azur has been awarded the ANR 2026 grant for the PERIOVIR project. Led by Dr. Alain Doglio, the project aims to investigate the integrated mechanisms of periodontal disease, specifically examining the interplay between bacterial microbiota, viruses, the immune response, and tissue alterations. The research consortium will include experts from Nice, Sophia Antipolis, Rennes, and Toulouse, utilizing clinical studies and advanced microbiology and immunology techniques.
In Gabon, the Scientific Council of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherches médicales de Franceville (CIRMF) has reconvened for its first formal session in thirteen years. Chaired by Professor Jacques Mavoungou, the council met in Franceville to align the institution's scientific programs with national and continental public health priorities. The discussions focused on research units, international synergies, and the study of emerging viruses, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases.
