Medical researchers identify cancer therapeutic potential in colostrum and link H. pylori to SIBO

Researchers at the Santiago de Compostela Health Research Institute (IDIS) have identified molecules in bovine colostrum with potential therapeutic applications for cancer. A study published in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles indicates that extracellular vesicles found in colostrum can reversibly slow the proliferation of gastrointestinal cancer cells and increase their sensitivity to chemotherapy.

Separately, a study led by the University of Valencia has investigated the link between Helicobacter pylori infections and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Published in Medical Hypotheses, the research suggests that the connection between the stomach bacteria and SIBO varies by patient due to individual gastric phenotypes. This explains why some patients develop SIBO following infection while others do not, and why antibiotic eradication of H. pylori does not always resolve symptoms.
