Medical schools welcome Class of 2030 during White Coat ceremonies
Medical schools at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) held ceremonies to welcome their incoming Class of 2030.
At UAMS, 172 new students participated in White Coat ceremonies held in Little Rock and Fayetteville. The cohort is 51% male and 49% female, with ages ranging from 20 to 38. Students recited the Medical Student Oath as part of the tradition, which symbolizes their commitment to the medical profession.
At UMSOM, 175 students were accepted from a pool of more than 6,800 applicants. During the ceremony at the Hippodrome Theatre, students received white coats and stethoscopes sponsored by alumni. The event included traditions such as signing a leather-bound Honor Registry and reading the Code of Honor in various native languages to celebrate the class's diversity.
