Medical specialists migrate from Serbia to Montenegro
Experienced medical professionals are migrating from Serbia to Montenegro, driven by better working conditions and higher salaries. Dr. Tatjana Vešović, a former head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic at Vršac General Hospital, resigned two years before her planned retirement to work at a state hospital in Bar, Montenegro. Her husband, radiologist Dr. Goran Vešović, also relocated to the same institution.
Vešović noted that while her previous hospital was respected, the healthcare system in Montenegro offers a more supportive environment. She highlighted improved management, better interpersonal relationships, and professional collegiality as key factors. In Montenegro, salaries for such positions can reach up to 4,500 euros. This trend of experienced specialists leaving Serbia for neighboring Montenegro poses a risk to the Serbian healthcare system, which is already struggling to retain younger medical staff.
