Medical studies evaluate neuromodulation for sleep and dementia care costs
A randomized controlled clinical study conducted by the Federal University of Amapá evaluated the impact of Radio Electric Asymmetric Conveyer (REAC) neuromodulation technology on sleep disturbances. The study focused on family caregivers of patients with Parkinson’s Disease. Results indicated significant improvements in excessive sleepiness and functional dysmetria in the intervention group, suggesting potential therapeutic benefits for sleep quality and related mood disorders.
In a separate European multicenter study, researchers assessed the cost-effectiveness of patient-centered special care units for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (SCU-B) as part of the RECage consortium. The longitudinal cohort study of 508 participants found that the SCU-B cohort experienced lower total quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and higher total costs compared to the non-SCU-B cohort. Due to these findings and existing uncertainties, the study concluded that widespread implementation or disinvestment of SCU-B cannot be recommended at this time, suggesting further randomized studies stratified by region.
