Medical teams in Turkey perform advanced minimally invasive heart surgeries

Medical professionals in Turkey have successfully performed advanced minimally invasive cardiac procedures to treat high-risk patients.

At Manisa City Hospital, a surgical team led by Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Tezcan Bozkurt performed a tricuspid valve endocarditis surgery without stopping the heart or opening the breastbone. Using a 5-centimeter incision under the right breast, the team cleaned infected masses and repaired the valve. This method was chosen to avoid damaging previous bypass grafts in a 40-year-old patient with chronic kidney failure.

In Diyarbakır, a team at Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital, led by Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Çap, successfully addressed a leak in a prosthetic mitral valve. To avoid the high risks of a second open-heart surgery, doctors used an angiographic method via the femoral vein to reach the heart. They utilized a specialized plug to seal the leak, treating a 50-year-old patient suffering from advanced heart failure.
