Medical teams perform high-complexity surgeries in Argentina and Spain
Medical teams in Argentina and Spain have successfully completed high-complexity surgical procedures.
In San Fernando, Argentina, the neurosurgery department at the Hospital Petrona V. de Cordero performed a complex resection of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM). The surgery was conducted with the patient awake to allow real-time monitoring of neurological functions, specifically language and speech, to prevent permanent damage. The procedure included intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and neuropsychological evaluation. The patient was discharged four days after the intervention.
In Córdoba, Spain, the Hospital Quirónsalud Córdoba successfully treated a patient with severe coronary artery disease and a critical obstruction in the coronary trunk. Due to the presence of 'porcelain aorta'—extensive calcification that made bypass surgery unsafe—the medical team utilized a mechanical cardiac assist pump, advanced intracoronary imaging, and the implantation of two stents. The intervention restored blood flow and improved heart function without the need for traditional revascularization surgery.
