Medical teams treat complex spinal and tendon conditions in Vietnam and China

Medical professionals in Vietnam and China have successfully treated complex neurological and orthopedic conditions in two separate cases.

At Viet Duc University Hospital in Vietnam, surgeons performed a percutaneous Achilles tendon lengthening procedure on a young boy. The patient had developed severe tendon contracture as a complication of a major traumatic brain injury sustained at age six. The procedure aims to correct foot deformities caused by muscle contractions and restore the child's ability to walk normally.

In Guangzhou, China, doctors at the Second People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University treated a 30-year-old man who experienced sudden paralysis in both legs and loss of bladder and bowel control. The patient had a history of calcified disc herniation. While the patient had used a pillow for back support during a flare-up, doctors determined the paralysis was caused by acute spinal cord compression from his pre-existing severe disc herniation. Following surgery to relieve the pressure, the patient's motor function improved by over 80% and he has since been discharged.
