Medical technology advancements in robotics and materials

The Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Lanzarote has integrated a robotic exoskeleton costing over 100,000 euros to assist in the rehabilitation of neurological patients. The device is designed to help individuals with spinal cord injuries, strokes, and neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s, to regain walking capabilities. Patients using the technology report improved posture and more fluid movement both during and after rehabilitation sessions.

In the broader medical sector, plastics remain essential for healthcare infrastructure. According to the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed), between 50% and 60% of all medical products, including syringes, needles, tubes, and implants, are made of plastic. The global market for medical-grade plastics is projected to reach 87.58 billion dollars by 2030. These materials must meet strict standards for biocompatibility, sterilization, and quality to ensure patient safety.
