Medical technology advances in wireless devices and AI diagnostics
The wireless medical device market is projected to grow from $30.97 billion in 2025 to $58.87 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 13.7%. This expansion is driven by the rising adoption of telemedicine and the demand for real-time patient monitoring. Key developments include GE HealthCare Technologies’ introduction of the Vscan Air SL, a wireless handheld ultrasound system that streams high-resolution images to mobile devices. Additionally, the sector is seeing consolidation, such as Getinge’s $477 million acquisition of US-based Paragonics Technologies to strengthen its position in organ transplant monitoring.
In parallel, advancements in artificial intelligence are transforming cardiac diagnostics. Researchers have developed an AI tool capable of identifying signs of heart failure and heart valve disease from routine electrocardiograms (ECG) in less than two seconds. Presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress, the tool was tested on 67,000 patients in the US, identifying up to 81% of heart failure cases and 90% of heart valve disease cases. This technology aims to provide early diagnosis using common ECG tests, potentially bypassing the long wait times often associated with echocardiograms.
