Medical technology experts highlight clinical engineering roles and MedTech startup opportunities
In the field of medical technology and hospital infrastructure, experts are emphasizing the critical role of clinical engineers. During the XI Conference ‘Hospital of the 21st Century’, clinical engineer Agnieszka Sopel argued that these specialists should be involved in the investment process from the initial concept stage. She noted that the absence of such experts can lead to significant costs, citing an instance where improper angiograph placement required 700,000 PLN in modifications.
Sopel distinguished the role of a clinical engineer from that of a medical technologist. While a technologist ensures the correct installation and operation of a device, a clinical engineer focuses on market analysis and aligning equipment with the specific needs of a medical unit. Additionally, she mentioned the ongoing formation of the Association of Medical Apparatus Workers to increase the professional voice in medical investments.
In a related development for the MedTech sector, Wrocław Medical University has opened a call for startups and project teams. Interested parties developing solutions in digital health, artificial intelligence in medicine, and medical devices can apply until October 30, 2026. Selected projects will participate in a pitch session before venture capital investors during the ‘MedTech or TechMed? Driven by AI’ conference in November.
