Medical University of Lausitz – Carl Thiem opens new child protection clinic
The Medical University of Lausitz – Carl Thiem (MUL – CT) has opened a new child protection clinic in Cottbus to support children and adolescents suspected of experiencing abuse, sexual violence, or neglect. The facility aims to provide early professional assessment of child welfare risks through close cooperation between doctors, nursing staff, and youth welfare offices.
Cooperation agreements have been signed with the youth welfare offices of the city of Cottbus and the Spree-Neiße district to establish a formal foundation for collaboration between the clinic and youth services. The goal is to create a network with coordinated procedures to ensure affected families receive rapid assistance. Depending on the severity of the case, specialists can provide outpatient care or initiate inpatient treatment.
In a separate development at the university, the first cohort of medical students has begun its studies. Founded in July 2024, the institution is Brandenburgs first state medical university. The curriculum emphasizes early clinical practice, integrating direct patient contact and communication training into the first semester.
